World History:
Preface: Super Robot Wars: Unlimited Generation Alpha was an RP based on the video game franchise "Super Robot Taisen", which takes several mecha franchises and combines their stories into one large world-saving plot, often even resolving some issues that the anime failed to.
The RP community was of a similar nature, taking characters from various mecha, and mecha-like canons, as well as dozens of original characters with thier own plot, and playing them out across the span of the game's 3 year lifetime. Though MarKus's story could stand alone entirely, it was integrated with the many plots and events from other shows and stories. The RP itself had it's own main plot to be carried out in 3 acts over it's lifetime, and like the other stories, could stand all on it's own. The following is the RP's story, including no events from other canons or original plots.
SRW:UG@'s World
For many years the Earth Sphere has been at war, not only with itself, but with other inhuman and intergalactic forces. Eventually the horrors of war came to a head as several disasters struck all at once; a space colony dropping on Austrailia, a new mysterious power source going out of control within the machine that housed it, and monstrous angels wiping flat a large mass of the world. After the latter, an event known as the "Second Impact", the remaining world governments declared a new age, an era to be known as "After Impact."
While the world at large tried to rebuild, nearly half of it's surface uninhabitable for many years, strife continued still as corrupt corporations build themselves on the backs of the downtrodden and desperate, and countries 'claimed' assistance to others while basically occupying them with no resistance. This, as well as continued attacks from monster and alien alike, the world was not getting any better. However one small force rose up to try and do what was best for restoring the world, rather than benefiting themselves directly. A mysterious battleship known as the White Chalice came to the public eye, and opened out a call to those who would put aside personal, religious, cultural, and national differences in order to work to protect and build up the Earth to as much of it's former glory as they could. After many factions gathered, including members major factions such as the Earth Federation Space Forces, Zeon, greater Brittania, as well as smaller groups and even individuals who just lucked upon mechanized force came together. In June of A.I. 16 (June of 2011, the RP's opening), the White Chalice took flight to patrol the world with mechanized force, seeking to help those who could not protect themselves, and rid the world of forces that sought to simply make matters worse.
Shortly after it's first few operations, another large force made itself well known; a group going by "Adventus", claiming they too were out to help the world, and had been truly doing so for some time, however they have a very specific take on matters. It was not simply 'war' or 'greed' or 'monsters' that caused the Earth to fall into disarray, but the concept of 'giant robots' or any sort of 'mechanized force', as not to exclude such forces as the Strike Witches and Kamen Riders whom didn't quite fall under the 'giant robot' stereotype. While they did what they could to aid the world, raising morale, and rebuilding historical landmarks, they, in hypocritical fashion, used their own machines in order to stop any and all forces who dared use a robot for any reason. Naturally, their eyes were set upon the White Chalice faction. The difference between them and any other group with mecha, was the White Chalice Faction (WCF), had the power and organization to resist Adventus effectively, never having to surrender their machines or throw down arms.
War with Adventus would go on for a year, with the opposing force using incredibly underhanded tactics against the WCF in order to subdue them. However, in the end their highest officers would either fall or defect to superior force or ideals. It came down to one of the very disasters that had brought the world to it's current state being deployed against the WCF; the HALO, a massive machine using a still-mysterious energy only referred to as "Primeval Energy". Working together, the White Chalice, including it's senile captain, managed to stop HALO before it simply overloaded it's own generators in an automated attempt at wiping the Chalice out along with another large chunk of the world.
Though the world was far from peace, no longer did it have Adventus to suppress anyone from having their own mecha, and the world saw a rise in not only self-defense against monsters and aliens, but a new influx of people who would support the White Chalice in their efforts. Power shifted in the world, and the surrounding space colonies, almost an even split with people who would support the WCF, and the numerous factions that continued to either oppose them, or persisted in their evil ways regardless. For almost a year the WCF traveled the world, defending, rebuilding, and eliminating evil in general. Though fights still broke out, and disasters continued to occur, the Earth Sphere had begun to recover.
After a year, the White Chalice saw yet another major enemy that came specifically after it. Kairos Aspida was more than just another group that disagreed with the WCF's ways, but a group that directly blamed them for the desolate future they'd come from! It was brought to light that the White Chalice had been stolen by one of the ship's Doctors, Ayame Jin, and brought back to the past in order to prevent the terrible future that had come to pass. Those in Kairos Aspida who had given chase had miscalculated their travel through time and come to our time three years after Ayame and the White Chalice had. Due to Ayame's influence and the presence of the White Chalice itself, the time that Kairos Aspida had come from was, essentially, destroyed, as the future they'd come from would never come to pass. The WCF had already improved the state of things as it stood. However, neither faction had a means of knowing this, and for months were unable to see eye to eye.
After many battles with one another, the two factions agreed to meet and discuss matters, and so many truths came out that they no longer had a reason to fight one another, even if Kairos Aspida were still bitter bout the outcome that they knew the WCF would be causing in the future. They still felt the crew of the White Chalice had far too much power to themselves, too many different 'super powers' of energy; Getter Rays, Spiral Energy, GN Drives, Newtypes, and even the power of Gods in their hands.
Though they had agreed the world was in need of protecting, their opinions on how, and who had the power, differed. They never quite saw eye to eye but they'd agreed to a cease-fire against one another. Unfortunately that wouldn't last, as those who did not agree with the ceasefire chose to attack locations where members of WCF were from, and because they chose to retaliate, the ceasefire was broken, and Kairos Aspida came back at the White Chalice with full force.
With two super-powers clashing, something once spoken of back during the days of Adventus had come to pass; Primeval Force went out of control, unable to be handled by Kairos Aspida whom used this as their primary power source. The more the WCF had to put into fending them off, the more Primeval Force became sentient, until it became it's own cosmic entity. Kairos Aspida was wiped out by it's own power, and it was up to the only proper fighting force to quell it; the White Chalice. Though they had the support of everyone in the Earth Sphere, it was still a desperate challenge; as they'd learn that all these supernatural energies had cosmic origins that tied back to Primeval Force.
At the end of the day, though, the combined force of the White Chalice and everyone in the Earth Sphere beat back the Primeval Avatar, and eventually pushed it into our Sun. With the Avatar destroyed, as well as the White Chalice itself, the faction slowly dismantled, everyone returning to their homes, their worlds, their dimensions. With most of the Earth Sphere unified with the importance of rebuilding and not allowing such a massive disaster to occur once more.
Character History:o
Preface: MarKus's story, though incorporated into events with other canons in the world of SRW:UGA, was designed to be stand-alone, though no places are specifically stated where these events occur. Outside of his personal history up until becoming a member of the WCF, his story was designed as a series of key events, primarily combat-oriented. Though those events were key to progressing his personal story, he had his hand in several other major events, and would make it to the end of the RP's life. It is after the RP's end that he'll be pulled from.
MarKus's history
-1 A.I.: MarKus Haley is born, yay!
2 A.I.: A meteor containing and alien species known as Percolatii crashes on Earth, landing in a major city. Percolatii are reported to emerge from the meteor, and begin killing civilians, transforming their bodies into copies of their victims, and working their way into humanity. Shortly thereafter, several Percolatii who have replaced influential people pool their resources and create an organization known as "TECZ", so they can be in control of anti-Percolatis operations. Battles against the Percolatii threat, unknown to all but those in control of the organization, are nothing more than staged performances.
3 A.I: MarKus’s parents are killed in an accident. Two Percolatii, who by chance happened to be nearby but not responsible for the accident, took their appearance and continued to raise MarKus as best they could. It would be many years later that MarKus would learn that he also lost an unborn sister in this same incident. Unfortunately, Percolatis cannot replicate human reproduction.
MarKus grew up the child of independent mech designers. Though frequently employed by military factions, they were free to move about and do as they pleased. Due to a semi-nomadic life, having to move depending on the contract request, MarKus was given little time to make friends outside various mechanics and designers who were tolerant to children hanging about the hangar. When MarKus wasn't spending time watching television, he was loitering about the hangars they were stationed, learning from his 'friends' about constructing and repairing machines. MarKus would come to use this knowledge to help his parents with future projects.
The time MarKus didn't spend in the hangars was spent mostly glued to a television. He grew up watching a weekly series called "Kamen Rider", which changed themes yearly. Watching this show, he grew fond of its over-the-top charismatic heroes and action. MarKus came to idolize the heroes he watched, so much that he wanted to be like them. At age ten, he tried teaching himself martial martial arts and gymnastics. Without proper training, it only led to him being slightly above average, and constantly running around on equipment in hangars.
11 A.I.: Work begins on specialized Anti-Percolatic machines. Both MarKus's parents are on the development team, although unaware of TECZ’s true objectives. A PR campaign to reassure people that TECZ is only just starting in their efforts against the Percolatis threat backfires, leaving MarKus’s parents fearing for their lives if their identities are discovered. However production of the machines continues, only with a very specific pilot in mind...
August, 16 A.I.: MarKus's arrange to steal the Anti-Percolatis Frame Type-T, code named “Technica”, a week before its official field run, designing an AI protocol to simulate going berserk and running off while detonating a series of explosive to simulate an attack while they steal all the data on it. The plan was to simply use the Type-T and its data as a bargaining chip to ensure their protection, which would've gone off without a hitch except MarKus had gone off and acted on his own before his parents did, stealing the machine under his own terms.
Half-aware that their son is in possession of the Type-T and without the Frame, MarKus’s parents have no choice but to go into hiding. MarKus, meanwhile, uses the Type-T on two separate occasions in staged Percolatii battles, defeating them before the TECZ forces could arrive. It was during his third showing that he ran across the developing White Chalice crew. It was more than just the Percolatis that would show up where he'd expected them too, as other monsters happened along the site of an underground boxing circuit. Not caring which monster was from where, MarKus took up arms with his impromptu allies with the White Chalice to fight off the monsters.
It was during the battle that MarKus nearly came to terms with an employee of TECZ, unfortunately, it seemed that he was killed in action. That man, Gregory Whinthrop, was going to allow MarKus to take the Technica, semantically TECZ property, and use it to his own means, fortunately the men under him allowed MarKus to leave with it in hand, as a final respect to the man they thought dead. At the end of the battle, his mecha was heavily damaged, but under the disguise of a completely made up "Kamen Rider Technica", he boards the White Chalice to get his machine repaired, but as plain ol MarKus Haley, he signs on as a mechanic and begins working on his, and others' machines.
Now traveling along with a ship flying around the world, it'd be months before he'd see another Percolatis, but in that time, he got to see many more horrors that threatened the world, most notably was a cosmic horror known as "Festum", an alien species that was more deadly to the mind than to the body; any response to it's seemingly innocent calls would cause the responder to be turned into a mass of green crystals. It was during a dispatched operation that MarKus would meet his girlfriend Shirley Yaeger, and rather than be some sort of combat powerhouse, establish himself as some sort of prodigious mechanic, bringing machines back to combat operation in record time!
After a two-week operation of facing down monsters that could kill you for thinking AT them, only a handfull of people were lost during the operation and everyone returned to the Chalice proper, many of them now friends for life having gone through the same horrifying ordeal. However, months later, in January of A.I. 17, MarKus would experience one of the most important things in his life.
Aboard the ship was another man who called himself a "Kamen Rider" albeit not from any of the television shows he'd watched. However, because of that man's presence, the world often was struck with dimensional distortions, parts of other worlds combining with this one, as if they'd been there all along regardless of the topography change. Many of these were parts of other worlds where the Kamen Riders Markus grew up watching were real, and had come to this world. During one such dimensional shift, and the resulting battle that took place around them, MarKus was able to pick up one of the many Rider Belts worn by now-fallen Riders, and used it to his own heroic ends.
In April of 17 A.I. MarKus was greeted with several unusual visitors. The first was what he might've considered his 'rival' if he didn't think the man below him; a pilot from TECZ by the name of Rathan Johnson. Though Rathan was the superior pilot, MarKus had allies on his side, particularly the second of his strange visitors, Gregory Whinthrop, whom everyone that knew, considered him dead. For that matter, even Greg thought he was dead, unsure if he was himself or a replacement Percolatis. With Greg's help, Rathan as well as other enemy TECZ infantry and Percolatis were beat back, allowing a rather embarrassing reunion with his parents. It was a nice change of pace to meet someone's parents, rather than hear that they've been dead for X-number of years.
Sadly, Mr. and Mrs. Haley would fall to the usual shonen hero trope, and be killed, by Rathan no less. Under the least of ideal situations, before crushing them in the hands of his machine, he would oust his parents as Percolatis, to which they would openly admit. MarKus's entire concept of them was thrown askew, outright denying Gregory's state as one, and now his parents revealing themselves such, MarKus lost the grander sight of things until Rathan killed them in cold blood. Alien or not, they'd raised him for as long as he could remember.
MarKus lost any sort of sense as a hero that day, and returned the favor to Rathan, brutally crushing his cockpit to trap him inside before leaving him as little more than a smear in a crater on the countryside. Fortunately, MarKus had a new family among the crew of the White Chalice, and after months of moping and confusion, MarKus returned to himself with a new purpose. Percolatis were not necessarily his enemy, but records of that battle helped to explain that there were two entire factions of Percolatis; those who chose to live among humans, only replacing those that were killed by other humans in war, or cold blood, or even through illness, and then those who simply wished to make the Earth their new home by seeping into society and overthrowing it from within. TECZ was that faction's HQ, and they'd become his ultimate enemy, a company, an entire sect of a species that needed to be stopped.
He'd find his biggest step to doing so months later, by accident no less! The WCF would come across a cannon platform set atop a volcano that wasn't on a topographical map. The volcano had been caused by a meteorite that had crashed into the Earth, and it just so happened that TECZ was there trying to harvest it. MarKus would learn that it was another meteorite carrying Percolatis eggs, and a strange bio-chemical material that would further along their plot.. unfortunately TECZ machines would get away with about half of it, the other half blown away by the cannon, along with a large portion of a second Japan archipelago that had come to exist on Earth.
Afterwards, MarKus would spend months trying to find TECZ HQ, after all, he only spent time at one of their hangars, not their corporate HQ. Eventually their base could be found with the help of a supercomputer AI... after he managed to catch a kaijin-induced cold (this is actually important!). MarKus convinced a team from the WCF, including Gregory, his girlfriend Shirley, and several Kamen Rider pals. During an epic battle with the CEO of TECZ, whom was of course a Percolatis himself, Gregory sacrificed himself to stop a machine that was minutes from burying the meteorite payload deep into the earth. While fighting with the CEO, he and MarKus wrecked each other into the CEO building, burying and destroying both the kaiju and the Technica. What emerged was MarKus, however a key detail gave away that this was, in fact, the CEO!
A week prior, MarKus had caught a cold, and had been wearing his trademark bandanna as a germ mask (not an effective one, mind you.) When the CEO emerged, posing exactly as MarKus, nobody was fooled, as the man had only ever seen MarKus with his bandanna on his head. His confusion in why his plan was failing, left him wide open for the real MarKus to stab him through the back with a piece of rebar. For greatest justice, MarKus was lent the Fourze Driver in order to finish his copy off in the only way a true Kamen Rider should, with a Rider Kick!
With Justice done, and his parents "avenged" in a sense, MarKus settled down from his mecha heroics, and began focusing more on being a mechanic like his parents were, fixing dozens of different styles of machines, for dozens of factions. Though he did continue to fight alongside the WCF, he became more of the heroic 'big brother' figure to many of the younger crew aboard the White Chalice, which were surprising in number for a military non-military vessel that saw combat almost daily!
In the remaining 18 months that the White Chalice was in service, MarKus came to call himself an "Ace Mechanic", on par with people who were considered "Ace Pilots". MarKus had his hand in many battles after his personal tale was over, and furthered his relationship with Shirley, as well as many important military and political figures he'd later consider 'family', even an uncle to the children of a man who went from nothing to running a country, and being in the favor of the Queen Reagent of Zeon (vicariously through the occasional care-taking of the ACTUAL Crown Princess of Zeon.).
Once the Primeval Avatar was destroyed, MarKus had no real home to return to. Now almost 20, and 2 years with his girlfriend Shirley, rather than immediately settling down, the two of them traveled around the Earth Sphere for a while, only staying in countries and provinces where they had connections before picking a place to finally settle down on the eastern American coast, still their home country, but near enough to visit friends internationally.
Personality:MarKus didn't get to grow up around other kids, so it makes him come off as selfish and self-centered when it comes to dealing with those he doesn't know. While not intentionally rude, MarKus can't seem that way in a first encounter before realizing that he's not with his parents, and he can't have his way all the time. Having mostly grown up around other rather surly mechanics and laborers, he'd pick up quite the foul mouth as well.
MarKus is quite often loud and over-the-top, which isn't to say he hasn't been influenced by what he sees on TV, but it's the way he'd come to learn to get others attention when he wanted or needed it. Doubling up on his "loudness", whenever he works, there's typically some sort of loud rock or metal genre music playing, loud to the point that it's drowning out the sound of him working, but likely wrecking the eardrums of those around him.
When MarKus pilots, that's when it shines through that he's watched too many kid's action shows, and even still at his age. MarKus prefers to be dramatic, rather than strategic in battle, calling attacks and posing when it seems he has an open opportunity to do so. He often lets his heroism get the better of him, and lets his mech get damaged instead of logically dodging, or throwing it in the way of protecting innocents and teammates. After all, as long as he is okay, he can just rebuild the machine, right?
During times before, or after a mission (that wasn't impromptu) MarKus wears an outfit that's supposed to be his rendition of a Kamen Rider. This outfit is made of a painted space helmet and a mostly black motocross outfit. The point of wearing this is so it's less obvious it's him piloting the Frame, and keeps suspicion off him and his parents for having stolen the unit. While wearing it outside of combat, he does his best to act calm, cool, and collected, and even tries changing his voice. While it's easy to put together that MarKus isn't around when "Kamen Rider Technica" is, he's going to try and deny it for as long as he possibly can.
Of all "evil" forces in the world that he could've picked, he chose the Percolatis because it was what convenient to him at first. With the Technica right under his nose and it being specifically designed just for them, the choice seemed clear until he'd finally seen what WAS going on; the entire ploy of TECZ faking it just to make it seem like they were the best of good guys. It didn't help matters that many of the people MarKus came across turned out to be jerks. With the simple idea of "I wanna be the hero", he made TECZ and all Percolatis his personal enemy.
Having spent much of is time with the crew of the White Chalice, MarKus gradually matured, slowly taking on more of a heroic role model for the younger crew, rather than trying to be some over-the-top action hero. He eventually cut back on his foul language, mostly for those around that were younger to him, especially as some of them were royalty or the children of government officials. What he wasn't quite conscious to was he had been trying to fill a void of a sister he was supposed to have before his real parents had been replaced. Though it never hurt to try and be a good role model much like the television Kamen Riders were for him.
What also changed was his view of his enemy. Rather than simply 'all of once species' was inherently evil, he'd finally see that it was typically the individual, not the group that was the cause of trouble. It took the loss of his parents to lean this less, as well as many other first-hand experiences with his allies, and even those who would defect from their factions to aid the WCF.
Third-Person Sample:
Surely his moogle was getting annoyed with him, but, after time and again, he'd asked to make sure that he could 'switch clothing' at any given point. Only once or twice had he tested it, and was highly pleased with the results! Having decided to save it for such an occasion in battle.
"Alright, do it." he says, ordering his moogle.
"You know this is pretty childish." it responds.
"Don't care."
The moogle shakes his head. "Are you serious, shouldn't you just fight?"
"Don't caaare. Do the thing."
"Ugh, fine... here you g--"
MarKus cuts his moogle off. "No! Not UNTIL I say it, got it. I thought we discussed this?"
"Jeez, fine. But you owe me." the moogle retorts.
Finally, putting his arms off to one sides, he crosses them, then moves them to the other side, following that by drawing in and clenching his fist. "HENSHIN!"
With that word, the moogle did his part, swapping MarKus from the clothes of a Blacksmith, to that of a Chocobo Knight. However, it seemed MarKus still was not happy about it. "That was way too fast! Do it slower next time!"
"There is no 'slower' you idiot! Quit being a kid about it and fight! I'm not doing to do the fighting for you!" the moogle shouts, fluttering back and away from the oncoming monsters.
"Fine fine... I guess you're right. Let's Ride!" he shouts, readying his lance, at a moment's notice ready to call for his mount to come trample his enemies from the side; after all, at least his Chocobo didn't argue with him! "But you keep complaining and I'll make you into a belt!"
Mognet Sample:
From: Ace Mechanic MarKus
Contents:YOU! Yes you, with the dull sword? You tired of seeing sparks fly off armor instead of blood?
YOU! Tired of seeing arrows lodged into your shield, worrying that the next one will get through?
Well why don't you come ask for the best blacksmith this city's seen in ages! I'm already a master at building the most badass of machines, so why don't you let me touch up your gear... for a nominal fee of course. Take that busted up sword and shield and turn it into one combined piece of gear that'll not only save your life, but keep that other hand free for, well, other tasks.
Ask for MarKus; Acemechanic Blacksmith!
